What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy increases oxygen delivery to the body by providing pure oxygen in a closed chamber where the air pressure is higher than normal. The chamber is pressurized to over one atmosphere and 93% pure oxygen is breathed, which is significantly higher in density than normal to achieve effective therapeutic results.

Under increased pressure, blood can carry 2–3 times more oxygen: oxygen binds to red blood cells more effectively and dissolves in the bloodstream up to 20 times better than under normal conditions. This allows maximum oxygen to reach the body’s tissues. Oxygen-rich blood circulates throughout the body, helping to repair damaged tissues, including slow or chronically healing wounds, and supporting recovery from illness. Oxygen therapy also supports the work of white blood cells, which accelerates wound healing and promotes the formation of new skin, blood vessels, and connective tissue.

How does hyperbaric oxygen therapy work?

This non-medical device provides mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy designed to accelerate recovery, support cellular metabolism, and promote detoxification. During a session, the oxygen level in the chamber is increased and a gentle pressure of 1.5 ATA is applied, which helps increase the oxygen level in the blood. This process supports the body’s natural healing processes, strengthens the immune system, and contributes to overall well-being.

The chamber is pressurized to 1.5 ATA, which is equivalent to the pressure of underwater at a depth of approximately 5 meters. Collagen – a protein that is the main building block of skin, bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments – begins to decline from around the age of 25. In addition to natural aging, our skin is also affected by environmental pollution, sunlight, food chemicals, alcohol and tobacco consumption, and various diseases or physical injuries. What are the possible side effects?

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

There may be contraindications to oxygen therapy. Before the session, please make sure that you do not have the following contraindications:

· claustrophobia, or fear of closed spaces

· impaired patency and chronic inflammation of the oral cavity and paranasal sinuses

· acute respiratory diseases accompanied by cough, runny nose, sore throat and nasal congestion

· fever above 37°C

· high blood pressure (above 170/90mmHg) that does not respond to treatment

· severe chronic diseases of the respiratory organs: pulmonary fibrosis, pneumothorax, emphysema, lung abscesses

· epilepsy  

· pregnancy

 How safe is hyperbaric oxygen therapy?

While there is a possibility of side effects with any therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been shown to be extremely safe and the actual incidence of side effects is minimal. With short-term administration of 93% oxygen, the side effects seen at 1.5 ATA (atm) are relatively minimal compared to 3.0 ATA (atm) or higher. The pressure used in our oxygen chambers does not exceed 1.5 ATA (atm) and sessions last for one hour, minimizing the potential risk of oxygen toxicity. 

How long is a session?

The initial introductory session is 40 minutes in the chamber. For repeat visits, the session is approximately 60 minutes.

How many sessions should you do?

If you are recovering from an ACL/MCL injury, other traumas or surgeries, we usually recommend 20-30 or 60 (if hard injury/surgeries) sessions of 3-5 hours per week on average.

If you feel tired, tense, have low energy and have problems sleeping, then usually 10 sessions (3-5 hours per week) will significantly improve your well-being. Then, you can see for yourself, based on your own feelings, when you should do the next session to continue feeling good.

People who are simply monitoring and taking care of their health and youth can do it 1-2 times a week.

Top athletes and athletes who train every day can also do it 1-2 times a week. This helps to speed up recovery, prevent injuries, keep a clear head and feel fresh. If an athlete feels very tired and needs to recover quickly, then 3-5 sessions in a row can be done. After that, 1-2 times a week is enough, depending on their feelings.

How to spend your time during the session?

During the session, you can read a book, meditate, sleep, be on the phone, listen to music or just relax.

What to wear?

There are no clothing restrictions when using the chamber, but we recommend wearing comfortable clothes.

How will I feel after the session?

Most people feel more relaxed and have more energy after the session. In addition, an improvement in general well-being and mood has been described. An improvement in sleep quality has also been noted.

What will I feel after 10, 20 or 30 sessions?

This is one of the most common questions we are asked.

After 10 sessions, most people already feel noticeably better. Many are surprised at how well the procedure works. They feel clearer, their mood improves, and their sleep becomes deeper and of better quality. Energy levels begin to recover and gradually increase.

After 20 sessions, many experience a stable and consistent energy level. Daily activities are easier, without fatigue or energy fluctuations. The activation of the immune system contributes to better resistance, and many people notice that colds and coughs occur less frequently. Breathing also becomes easier.

After 30 or more sessions, changes are also visible on the outside. People look fresher and more youthful, the skin becomes more elastic, and the complexion acquires a more even tone and natural glow.
